Sloppy's honors Ward, Akhmedov

Sloppy Joe's recently presented Jean Klausing Employee of the Month Awards to Mary Ward and Zane Akhmedov.

Ward works as a retail associate in the retail warehouse. Akhmedov has been with Sloppy Joe's nearly three years and works in security and as a food runner.

Both employees were recognized for their outstanding performance and dedication to their work, according to a press release.

Markey Marine satisfies customers

Markey Marine in Key Largo recently won Mercury's annual Customer Satisfaction Index award for 2011. This marks the sixth consecutive year the business has been honored for outstanding service.

Markey is one of more than 4,000 Mercury outboard motor dealers in the United States. Only 18 dealers nationwide have been honored with the award every year it has been offered.

David and Karen Olmstead bought Markey Marine from founder Bill Markey 12 years ago after David had worked there since 1984.

Hospital honors Gonzalez, Natonski, Phillips

Lower Keys Medical Center named Eyner Gonzalez, Jan Natonski and Janice Phillips as the hospital's "Getting 2 Great" associates for December 2011.

They are continually recognized by patients, exceed expectations and model the "Getting 2 Great" guiding principles of servant leadership, never settling and always doing the right thing, according to a press release.

Gonzalez works in the Special Care Unit and receives many compliments from patients, the release says.

Natonski has served as a staff nurse, charge nurse and nursing supervisor. She has received commendations for her patient advocacy.

Phillips works in the cardiology department, where her Southern accent is memorable to patients who comment on her charm and politeness during procedures, the release states.

Shifflett named to board

Becky Shifflett, a branch manager with First State Bank of the Florida Keys, recently was named as a board member for the Domestic Abuse Shelter of Marathon.

In addition to her work with the shelter, Shifflett is active in both the Marathon and Islamorada communities and is the team captain of the First State Bank Marathon Relay For Life team.
