Planning chief arrested
Police: Don Craig hit police car with rock

Key West city officials do not know how the planning director's arrest Saturday night will affect his job, they said Sunday.

Don Craig, 64, was charged with assault with threats to do harm, a misdemeanor.

Craig allegedly was throwing rocks at cars and telling drivers to slow down in the 1300 block of Olivia Street, where he lives, at about 10 p.m. when a...

I WANT to throw rocks @ speeders

To everyone complaining about speeding & running stop signs. The 2 very worst spots in town are Windsor & Amelia and the corner of Royal & Amelia (where there isn't even a stop sign). Danger ! Danger ! Danger ! I want to throw rocks, too, but I have better sense. I do yell @ the cabbies sometimes, though. No rocks. No cursing.

This is why all these Hat weavers are pissed off at Donnie.....

he probably drinks the good stuff, and plenty of it (View mug shot) and the Hat weavers have to drink their Old Milwaukee beer...This is the only venue for them to vent their steam.. It's one of those class warfare things...That's all

What kind of genius throws a

What kind of genius throws a rock at a marked police car? He is VERY lucky he didn't hurt someone.

A drunk, drugged out idiot.

A drunk, drugged out idiot. I wonder if he was drug tested. What types of pills was he on? Why isn't this felonious assault on a police officer? You don't have to answer... I know the reason.

Why was the Cop speeding

Why hasn't anyone bothered to ask why the cop was speeding in the first place? If there actually was a rock thrown, the car was probably speeding so fast that he didn't recognize it as a cop car until it was too late. Speaking from personal observation, police vehicles are among the worst offenders (after taxis) when it comes to unnecessary speeding and running through stop signs.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?

Earnest T. Bass rides again.

What goes around comes around.

This is the same guy that has no problems disturbing other neighborhoods with his approval of Peary Ct and the bums at the Easter Seals buiding. He needs to take a hard look in the mirror.

An 'honorable man' doesn't throw rocks at cars, especially not

police cars. Yaniz is in la-la land again, it seems.

This pretty much tells me that Craig has no business in city government. He has shown a distinct lack of judgment and a disregard for the law. Don't we have enough ignorant, bully, crooked civil servants already? If he works in the development industry, it's a very clear conflict of interest for him to be Planning Director. Prosecute him and then fire him.

No excuse.

There is no excuse for Craig's behavior.

There is also no excuse for failing to fire him.

Slow day...

This is indeed a slow day for journalism. Is this really important? I would expect to read this in one of the rags or gossip columns. I've known Don Craig a very long time and he is a good man. captain curtis william erling white key west

Geez, I hate when the bubba-types chime in. The law is nothing

to you people, is it?

You support someone who shows poor judgement and a bully, vigilante attitude, who is being paid with our tax dollars? He shouldn't even be in the job he currently has because of conflict of interest. This guy has shown that he fits in well with the Bubba crooks. If I were you, I'd not put my name out there with his.

I put my name out there

I put my name out there because I have nothing to hide. I am not a 'Bubba type' and you obviously have never lost your temper? You lack courage and yes, I always stick by my friends (and proud to put my name out there). captain curtis william erling white

I usually enjoy your posts,

I usually enjoy your posts, but defending this behavior is wrong. There is no excuse to throw rocks at cars, let alone a police car. He may be a good man, but he needs to put down the bottle, get off the prescription meds, and take some anger management classes. Sticking by your friends is one thing. Defending dangerous, ignorant behavior is another. What if the car had swerved to avoid the rocks and hit a child? Would it still be OK?

Unless you're

locked up in jail or on probation, why do you live in a place you hate so much? You hate the locals, you hate the tourists, you hate the buildings ..... need I go on? Go away ... far, far away ..... please.

Let's have a vote

who is a bigger pain in the butt? Me or *.*

Who cares,

you are both idiots

Unstable

Proof of instability. The man WOULD have conflicts of interests and already does. The "interum" is finished. Good Luck in your future endeavors Mr. Craig and not in political positions, oh and would you please take Scholl with you?

On his side.

It is not a smart idea to throw rocks at police cars. But if you live on a street where people normally flout the law, including the police -- it's understandable. Olivia Street is the speedway for taxi drivers and cops and others who want to zoom around the "congestion" on Truman. Citizens have repeatedly asked for "traffic calming" measures but they would cause bumps for the Conch train tourists so our pleas are ignored. Free Don Craig, start targeting the reckless drivers in this town, do your job and enforce the law!

Don Craig arrest

There but for fortune.... How many of us have wanted to do the same thing, when a speed-crazed motorist barrels past our homes, oblivious to the hazard posed to kids, pets and neighborhood tranquility? Why was a police vehicle zooming up this narrow residential street, with a major thoroughfare only 1 block away?

Rocky

This guy should have NEVER been hired in the first place. It is time for him to go!

Address

When asked by the officer for his address Don simply replied "I live just a stone's throw away from here."

Legalize drugs now.

Legalize drugs now.

I know how it would and will affect his job.

Fire him. Their must be a clause that states any conduct unbecoming of the position is grounds for termination.

Don't throw rocks if you have a glass house

Look at the number of convicted felons who work in city government. The city has at least two major convicted felons who hold supervisor post right off the top of my head. Don't throw rocks if you have a glass house I say to a couple of city officials. I wish I could post their pictures from Keysso.net.
