Superintendent expecting big savings from merger

Schools Superintendent Jesus Jara said Monday that his plans to redesign the alternative education programs for the next school year will save the district roughly $700,000 in a painful budget season.

That figure is more than twice what Jara had previously projected as a reason to shut down the Keys Center Academy girls school and combine it with the mostly male alternative...

Citizens are encouraged to

Citizens are encouraged to make an ethics complaint through the district ethics hotline or web link. Ethicspoint is a private company. The Ken Gentile crdentials question is a good starting point for a complaint.

Who do you think receives the Ethicspoint complaints?

Ken Gentile is the one who receives the complaint from ethicshpoint. Even though they are a private company, the just pass it right along to him. This needs to be done by an outside agency.

Why blame Jesus?

This whole mess is because of Bubba Acevedo greed. You think what he did during his reign of theft and mismanagement was small potatoes. If you do then your definitely voting for the POTUS again! The damage has been done the effects will take years to come out!

Sure hope

I sure hope this board realizes this is not the man for our community. He down right only cares about the mighty dollar. Everyone needs to attend this meeting and tell him what we think of him. Time for him to return to MIAMI. Jesus, doesn't even have his own kids in our district generating some money for his fricking salary.

Good Point

Good Point about his kids not attending school here and not receiving those FTE dollars.

Wasting Money (again)

Will terminating Sunny Booker, still listed as Director of Alternative Education Programs at $81,000 annually, even though she was removed from that position, save any money? That's the cost of educating at least 4, possible 5, girls at Keys Center.

$81,000 add another 50 grand for insurance and retirement!

Getting rid of that pest Booker would be a plus economically and make a lot of parents happy to see such a problem gone. Challenge day anyone?

Worst way to cut money

I feel very sorry for these girls who THOUGHT they had a safety net and who felt safe and comfortable. There is too much pork in the system....trim it, BUT LEAVE EDUCATION ALONE !!! Your idea will NOT work, Mr. Jara.

No No NO

i DISLIKE THIS MAN EVERY SINGLE DAY JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE! They can not put these girls into the same rooms and areas as these boys! It is NOT OK! Get rid of Axeford. Get rid of 3-4 more useless administrators. For God's sake, I graduated with near 800 seniors, we had 2 principals and 1 assistant for about 3200 students! One counselor per grade level, and though they were busy, they were competent, organized and knew how to help. THAT is what Keys Center Academy offers, and then some. My honor roll in honors classes daughter due to the death of her closest uncle and then her father, lost the end of her Junior year scholastics, she was of course very upset and I had no insurance etc to get her the mental aid she needed, PLUS she needed to get those credits back and get back on track. This program has been a God send. Not only is she back on the Honor Roll, she's even in Calculus right now and about to be a graduate. Without the extra guidance of Heather and the extra time devoted to individually working with her, I don;t know if this outcome would be so rosy a picture. I don't know what Mays Sands offers, but I do know, last year the ONE time they intermingled the boys and girls, one boy punched a girl in the face THREE times on the bus. Does this sound like an intelligent choice? Why not...? Because these girls have devoured enough pain and abuse from MEN and others in their lives. THIS is not your holy grail Jesus! See you Thursday!

MORE B...S... FROM THE STUPID-INTENDENT

What kind of Board and Administration is running our school system??? Either you all are not too bright or you just arrogantly think we (the taxpayers) are absolutely stupid! The plan to address this shortfall keeps changing, the numbers keep changing, the information keeps changing; but what we (the taxpayers) REALLY NEED TO CHANGE is who is on that School Board. You all have failed miserably and our children suffer the consequenses of your failure. We pay enough in taxes for you to teach our children but you have failed. I regret voting to allow you to select our Superintendent and I regret voting for the referendum on the .5 mil tax this past January. Perhaps its time to start a Petition to RECALL all 5 of you and the Stupid-intendent. Let the State come in--- they have to be able to do a better job than what we have now. Voters have a critical opportunity to take matters into their hands this year and REMOVE ALL INCUMBENTS.

I'll believe it when I see it

I'll believe it when I see it. Something will pop up at the last minute and it will end up costing more. You watch and see.

Does anyone else think that

Does anyone else think that his numbers are wrong? This is what happens when you have some one who cant count his own numbers and knows nothing of education. The "cost" of combining these programs is well more than any money amount, even if he could figure out the right money amount. I know times are tough but education is not a business. A healthy bottom line has nothing to do with a proper education. Jara is destroying two good programs, against what all research shows is the right thing to do. What is the Doctor from? Vet school?
