Clashes between commissioners are expected tonight during discussion of Key West's ongoing city manager search.
A new city manager is needed to replace Jim Scholl, who holds the position until July. Scholl chose not to renew his contract.
At issue is how closely the Key West City Commission sticks to its own mandate regarding qualifications of city manage...
The city has always shown itself to be corrupt in its' hiring practices. It's time to put an end to that. If they don't qualify and if they don't apply on time, what does that tell you? They feel somehow entitled and can't even read a calendar for sure.
THAT'S how we get rock-throwing drunk development managers that have great conflict of interest and don't feel the law applies to them. I can guarantee you that NO CITIZEN of Key West wants THAT man around on our payroll.
Of course the city manager search was a disaster-- Panico was on the selection committee.
But now that the matter's before the Commission, I hope they do the right thing (call me Pollyanna).
I cannot urge the Commission strongly enough to select Margaret Romero. If the commissioners can see past duh mayor's petty, bubba politics, they will recognize that Margaret has an in-depth awareness of all city affairs. She has attended virtually every meeting of every committee established by the Commission. And she knows all things "City" better than city staff.
Margaret Romero is the wisest choice for city manager.
