$5,700 max for Cudjoe sewer
County staff to work on lowering connection fee

The Monroe County Commission on Wednesday set a tentative maximum sewer connection fee of $5,700 for businesses and households served by the Cudjoe Regional Wastewater System -- the highest fee so far on county sewer projects.

County staff will work on lowering the fee between now and July 18, when the commission will formally set the fee at a meeting in Key West.

Sewer connection fee is a rip off

Let me get this straight. Homeowners are going to have to pay for something most of us in the affected area do not want, nor did we ask for; because some politician(s) needed to pay back to some special interest group(s) that got him or her elected. This is also the same Monroe County officials who cannot manage their budgets in the school, mosquito control or general administration areas; yet, want to raise taxes to cover their mistakes -- only months after voters approved money monies out of an emergency fund into the school system operating budget. And let's not forget the special priced Apple devices for the county staff as well. Any citizen who votes for any incumbent is only adding to the systemic corruption of this county. This includes those that support Mr Ramsey for the top job in the Sheriff's department. It's time to clean house folks!!

We Are Not Shark Key 1%ers

The serfs on Cudjoe Key are not the one-percenters of Shark Key. They are Lesser Mortals. The Oligarchs and Plutocrats who own the politicians never pay full boat for anything. Hence, we 99ers just have to grin and bear it. We've got the best Democracy money can buy.

For all the people

For all the people complaining that they should not pay the $5700. Think of the all the years you have not had to pay the extra $50 a month or so in sewer charges. That alone comes to more that the extra $1200 you will be paying.

Yes, we currently do not

Yes, we currently do not have to pay a monthly sewer fee. We do however have to pay for an annual county permit for the aerobic system. We also have to hire a company for maintenance and service of that system. And no, it is not something that can be done by the average homeowner. Typical cost, about $400 per year. If something breaks in the system, the costs are higher. Not to mention the cost of the initial installation of the system. As a side note, when is keysnews going to fix the problem with the nicknames???

Use your real name

then there's no worries with nicknames...I had one of those aerobic systems. The government boys from the heath dept were suppose to check them once a year....The bolts for the inspection lid were rusted shut...another government rip-off.

Treat Us Like Shark Key

Here's how it is going to go down. The rest of us in the Lower Keys are going to be treated like Shark Key. Areas on Big Pine and No Name, for example, that want to be sewered like Shark Key was sewered are going to be sewered. The fee we will all pay will be the same as was paid by Shark Key. Let the BOCC vote however they like but if its not the same approach taken on Shark Key when George Nugent got his buddy Jim Reynolds to pull a fast one on taxpayers and sewer that island, a place that was not even part of the sewer plan, much less build the most expensive (more than $ 50,000 per EDU) community system in the history of the Keys without public bids, then you can be sure that residents will not tolerate being treated any differently. Not in the fee for connection nor service to our homes. BOCC, and FKAA, you can do the just thing now or suffer the humiliation of being exposed for what was done to taxpayers to help your wealthy supporters on Shark Key. Here's to hoping you make the right, fair, decission for the rest of us.

Should be $4500 or less.

No way these people should be charged more than the $4,500 hookup the millionaires on Shark Key paid. Get together, property owners to be served by the Cudjoe facility, and fight them on this.

Start digging while there is

Start digging while there is still something left of our reef.
